Understanding the GST Calculator
What Does a GST Calculator Do?
The GST calculator serves as a digital help by enabling users, whether individuals or businesses, to quickly determine the GST amount applicable to a given sum. The calculator takes into account the total value of goods or services provided, along with the applicable GST percentages, to determine the exact GST amount to be charged on the value given as an input.
Benefits of Using Our All-in-One Calculator to Calculate GST
Using our all-in-one calculator to determine the GST amount can be of numerous advantages, as mentioned below:
- Surety: Performing GST calculations manually or even using conventional calculators carries the risk of errors. Even a minor typing mistake could result in noncompliance with GST rules. The GST Calculator ensures precision by automating the process and removing the potential for manual mistakes.
- Fast Calculations: The calculator provides instant results, offering a massive time-saving advantage over manual calculation methods.
- Simplicity: The interface is so simple, acting as an added advantage. Just input the original price, choose the applicable GST rate, and receive precise GST payable or receivable amounts in seconds.
- Adaptive: The tool is highly adaptive. Not only will you get a total amount based on the GST rate, but you will also be able to calculate how much GST is added to a particular sum of money.
Calculating GST from the Amount Excluding GST
This simply means you want to add GST to an amount on which tax is yet to be applied. Let’s understand with a simple example: suppose you bought an item for Rs. 1000, but you are yet to apply GST on it. The GST rate happens to be 18% in this case. The calculation will be as follows:
- CGST: (amount * rate) / 200 = (1000 * 18) / 200 = 90
- SGST: (amount * rate) / 200 = (1000 * 18) / 200 = 90
- IGST: (amount * rate) / 100 = (1000 * 18) / 100 = 180
- Tax: CGST + SGST = 90 + 90 = 180
Hence, the total amount with GST will be as follows:
Total Amount: Actual amount + GST Rate = 1000 (actual amount) + 180 (GST) = 1180
Calculating GST from the Amount Including GST
This simply means the amount you input will include both the actual amount and the GST component. The calculation will help you determine both individually.
- GST: (amount * -rate) / (100 + -rate) = (1000 * 18) / (100 + 18) = 152.54
- CGST: GST / 2 = 152.54 / 2 = 76.27
- SGST: GST / 2 = 152.54 / 2 = 76.27
- IGST: 0
- Tax: CGST + SGST = 76.27 + 76.27 = 152.54
Original Amount: Amount including GST / (1 + GST rate / 100) = 1000 / (1 + 18 / 100) = 1000 / 1.18 = 847.45
So, the original amount before GST was 847.45, and the GST amount was 152.54.
How to Use Our GST Calculator
- Step 1 - Move the scale or directly type the amount: To calculate GST Inclusive, type the amount that already contains GST. To calculate GST exclusive, type the original amount of the product.
- Step 2 - Select the GST rates: The screen before you already has standard GST rates applicable according to Indian GST rules and regulations.
- Red: If you have typed the amount that already includes GST, click on the red buttons of GST rates. The color red indicates GST inclusion.
- Green: If you have typed the actual amount of the product without GST, click on the green buttons of GST rates. The color green indicates GST exclusion.
- Step 3 - View the detailed calculation: Once you select the rates, you will see a detailed calculation. If you have opted for GST inclusion, it will show you CGST, SGST, IGST, GST tax, and the total amount. Here, the total amount is the original price of the product/service. If you have opted for GST exclusion (the actual price of the product or service), it will show CGST, SGST, IGST, GST tax, and the total amount, where the total amount includes the added GST component.
Why Does IGST Remain 0?
Notice how IGST remains 0 in some calculations. This is because IGST is applicable only on interstate supplies. When goods or services are supplied within the same state, CGST (Central Goods and Services Tax) and SGST (State Goods and Services Tax) are applicable instead of IGST. So, if you're calculating the actual amount from a total that already includes GST for an intra-state transaction, you'd typically separate the CGST and SGST components from the total.
